Stage 3 12" Brake Kit



Stage 3 12\" Brake Kit

So you want your car to stop - RIGHT NOW (and keep your 16" slicers). Here is the kit for you.

This kit uses some of the same componenets found on Mustang Cobras and Corvettes. We personally run this kit on our Bondurant instructor track cars. Since is uses common parts, there are many brake pad choices available from a mild street pad to a full "race only" pad. We can recommend other pad compounds depending on what you want. This kit is only available with smooth rotors due to the machining required.

The 12" kit is convertable to a 13" kit by installing 13" rotors and relocating the caliper bracket.

Kit includes:

  • New SHO machined PBR dual piston aluminum calipers
  • New caliper brackets
  • New slider pins
  • New 12" premium smooth rotors
  • New brake line crush washers
  • Instructions

Kit does not include any brake pads.  You will need to buy a set of Stage 3 pads to complete this kit.  We personally recommend HPS for normal street driving or HP+ for aggressive street or light track usage.

Tech Notes

This kit requires a minimum 16" wheels. It will fit under stock slicers and many aftermarket 16" wheels with the use of the included wheel spacers. We highly recommend braided stainless brake lines with this kit, although it will work with minor modification to the stock brake lines.


Due to the custom nature of the rotors and caliper brackets this kit is usually (but not always) ready to ship.  Please ask before you buy if you need it immediately.

These brakes are epic. I have the 13" kit on my '89 SHO. I've used them on track twice, and they didn't fade, even while working them HARD on every corner. For what it's worth, I was watching Porsches who had caught up to me on the straights fall way back during the braking zones, as I was able to dive way deeper into the corners...

This brake upgrade really works! Since the car that I installed it on is a '92, I had to change out the steering knuckles/spindles to the '94/'95 type, but that turned out to be relatively easy for me. I had done a fair amount of replacement suspension work on a '93 Taurus daily driver, so I was familiar with how the parts attached, that helped. (Hint: when changing the spindles, detach the anti-sway bar parts first, and attach them last; this frees the rest of the attached parts up so you can get them apart more easily.) With the proper spindles in place, installation of the new Stage III calipers is very straightforward, just be sure to torque the caliper bracket attaching bolts to 85 ft. lbs. After a little brake pad break in of the Hawk HPS pads I got with the Stage III set up, I made a few hard stops, and the car slows down quickly, with no noticeable brake fade each stop! A performance car is sort of useless if you can't stop it quickly, and the Stage III 12" brake system solves that problem completely. Plus, with the included spacers it fits under stock slicers, and the aluminum PBS calipers look great! One additional truly good feature: the pads are easy to change out, so if I see a chance in the future to run the car at a track day, or run some autocross, I will probably buy a set of Hawk HP+ pads, and run them for the extra bite!..

Keep your 16" slicers or existing aftermarket wheel without upgrading to a 17" wheel. Awesome brakes for both daily driver and use at the track...

This has to be one of my favorite upgrades. Deeper into the corners and great use for the street. A+!..
