Over time, the timing belt tensioner on the 3.2L automatic transmission cars tend to fail. Dirt, grit, and oil contaminate the tensioner and cause it to leak, and once a tensioner shows signs of leaking, it is only a matter of a short time before you have a failure. A failed ATX timing belt tensioner cannot keep tension on the timing belt, which is then allowed to slap (sometimes skipping a tooth). It is noisy, bad for the engine, and should be corrected as soon as possible.
If you can compress the piston even the slightest bit by hand, your old tensioner is bad. If there is any oil around the seal from leaking, chances are your tensioner is bad or will be soon. If you think you have a good tensioner, make sure you check its function and condition after you compress the piston and lock it in place for installation. Many times, an otherwise good looking tensioner will spring a leak when compressed for reinstallation.
If you are still reading this ad, that probably means you have a bad tensioner. The bad news is new tensioners have been obsolete for years, and the chance of finding a "good" used tensioner that will last another 100k in a wrecking yard are slim. The good news is SHO Source now offers rebuilt tensioners. We start with rebuildable cores which are fully disassembled and cleaned (there are many small parts inside that make these tensioners work). The cleaned parts are reassembled with a new spring, seal and fluid. Once assembled, the tensioner is tested for leaks and painted.
We have these tensioners ready to go!
Rebuildable core tensioners must be returned to SHO Source within 45 days to receive the core return credit. A rebuildable tensioner is one that does not have a broken aluminum casking or a broken/damaged steel piston rod.
Please send cores too:

For "I will send my core now!" this means that we must have the core in our hands before we will ship yours. Please plan for this when selecting the option.
The tensioner without the kit does not have a warranty. If you want a warranty you can purchase the complete kit: HERE
